Once upon a time, not so long ago, there was a great, thriving clan called the Carnage Empire, in acclaim to their violent and war-torn past. They had happened upon a long land bridge, and traveled across it in hopes of finding better lands. They were strong, and were knit together like a family. Once they had successfully crossed, they settled in the valley beneath the mountains, and there, they flourished.
It was not long after the settlement that members of the Empire began to be struck with symptoms the healers could only explain as the work of witches or black magic. The alphas, Calium and Vulture, were intrigued - while other members were taken aback and frightened. Antlers, horns, even wings, were beginning to form on the canidae of the Empire. Some were falling victim to things that were much worse - the loss of limbs and eyesight, and even death.
Vulture began to be ghoulishly obsessed with the mutations, and ordered a scouting party be sent out to find the source of the mutations. Twelve scouts were sent, and after two months, only three returned.
The three that did were riddled with mutations and stories to boot. They spoke of glowing patches in rivers, lakes, ponds. They recounted stories of scouts falling into them, and crawling out only to breath their last. One of the scouts had lost both his tail and his right hind leg, another had grown marvelous Dove-like wings and had gained unparalleled senses of hearing and sight. The last had been blinded and was plagued with amnesia.
The crippling mutations caused many within the Empire to demand efforts be made to close the Gates, to find cures and to leave the island at the nearest opportunity. The Sovereigns were overcome with the incredible potential the Gates held, and refused. This caused a rift, and the Empire split.
Vulture and Calium created the Vindicated clan - a coterie of members who shared the goal of finding, defending, and leaning about the Gates. They viewed the mutations as blessings, and believed that in time, they could find immortality. With two ruthless leaders at the helm, the Vindicated clan became a sinister force to be reckoned with.
An Empire member named Allora rose to the task of leading the collection of canidae who wished to see the Gates closed and the mutations cured. They wished to establish a new order and return to the ways of the Empire. Equally as skilled, they called themselves the Lunara. They stayed on the island only because the tides had long since swallowed up the bridge that allowed them to venture over.
A handful of canidae chose to wander into the wilderness, becoming nomads and camping in whomever's territory was most favorable to them at the time.
And this is where the story is, my friend. Your time is now - which side will you choose?
